Ulcerate – Everything is fire (Willowtip Records – 2009)
This now trio from New Zealand sounds like if Isis played death metal. I once saw them play a show in my hometown only to the support bands and bar staff. They’ve gone on to do great things, but this album is a perfect balance of fragile brutality. By the time the album gets to the title track’s resemblance of melody (4:43) it’s like a beautiful wave is washing over you.
