Full Of Hell & Merzbow (Profound Lore Records – 2004)
I’ve never been much into noise music. Controlled chaos, sure. But never noise. So Merzbow just passed me by and the noise moments of Full of Hell just put me off. So I was surprised as anyone when this came out and I actually loved it front to back. It’s like whatever they had done separately, cancelled each other out together. It was venomous and never felt forced or self-indulgent. If the initial blast of ‘Burst Synapse’ doesn’t grab you, then try from 2:48 onwards in ‘High Fells.’
