Dangers – The Bend In The Break (Topshelf Records – 2016)

Absolutely one of my favourite bands in recent years. They were first introduced to me by a guy I went to school with 15 years ago. I have no idea how he caught wind of a social media avoidant band on the other side of the world just after their inception, but he praised them as the best thing out there. I didn’t believe him. Release after release, it just didn’t click with me. Until the 2014 EP ‘Five O’Clock Shadows at the Edge of the Western World.’ It all made sense. The vocals were still a hard pill to swallow at times, but the meaning behind the words resonated with me like the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. Google that reference for some cool science shit. Then comes along this album and sets Alfred Brown IV on top of the pile of my favourite lyricists. I dare you to read his words and not be moved. The world needs more bands like this and it’s a crime they’re not more widely known or appreciated. Play it like you mean it.

FFO: Thanks AJ. I should have listened all along.
